HAS YOUR TEENAGER BEEN USING JUUL OR E-CIGARETTES?

  • JUUL and other e-cigarettes have been marketed towards children and young adults.
  • JUUL Pods and other e-cigarettes contain a high level of nicotine which increases the risk of long-term nicotine addiction in children and young adults.
  • JUUL Pods and other e-cigarettes contain formaldehyde and other toxic chemicals linked to acute lung injuries.

The Surgeon General reported in 2016 that nicotine use among U.S. Youth and young adults is unsafe and cause additional harm to the developing adolescent brain.

Adolescence is critical time for brain development, when executive function, working memory, emotional regulation, and more “reorganize” to become more mature.

Nicotine use can have unique consequences on this development of the teenage brain, negatively affecting cognitive function to the point that the person becomes more likely to abuse other substances in the future.

Nicotine addiction by teenagers is at epidemic levels. In 2011 1.5 percent of middle school and high school students used vaping devices. After the introduction of Juul devices, that number had risen to 16 percent by 2015.

Nicotine poses several health hazards,” including increased risk of cardiovascular, respiratory, reproductive, and gastrointestinal disorders, along with a reduced immune response. They added that nicotine also affects cell proliferation, oxidative stress, and DNA mutation “by various mechanisms which leads to cancer.

The New England Journey of Medicine reported in study, the chemicals used as flavoring chemicals in vaping devices produce formaldehyde-releasing agents which is a carcinogen. The article also reported that heating these chemicals by the coils in a vaping device makes the chemicals more toxic.

CBS News reported a hidden carcinogen is found in e-cigarettes. They also reported formaldehyde levels in e-cigarettes were found at levels up to 15 times higher than in regular cigarettes.

DIACETYL is a TOXIC substance found in JUUL and other e-cigarettes Environmental Health Perspectives reported that their researches found the toxic levels of diacetyl in 39 of the 51 flavors of vaping tested. Diacetyl is known to be a toxic chemical when inhaled and was previously linked to a serious lung disorder called “popcorn lung” named for the injury caused to workers in microwave popcorn factories who used Diacetyl in the manufacturing process.

Evidence suggests that super-heating Diacetyl in the coil of a vaping device makes the already known toxin to be even more toxic, especially with inhaled directly into the lungs.
